Streetsport wins TSB Community Partnership Award at the Daily Mirror’s Pride of Sport Awards

TSB Community Partnership Award recognises an individual or group who has improved the lives of people around them through sport

Streetsport, an initiative established in 2015 which aims to reduce youth crime and antisocial behaviour through sport and physical activity, has been awarded the TSB Community Partnership Award at the 2017 Pride of Sport Awards.

Streetsport uses sport as a means of touching the hardest to reach sections of society and has improved the lives of more than 16,000 people who now regularly participate in its sessions including street football, street tennis and street dance.

The team has created specific programmes around the idea of ‘prevention, intervention and perversion activities’ which have spread from the street and into prison; where family visiting times involve kickabouts rather than just chats across the table to help inmates and their children maintain an important aspect of family life. 

Since its launch, levels of youth-related violence are at an all-time low in the city, while calls to the fire brigade on the busiest night of the year – November 5 – also dropped to previously unseen levels last year.

Now it its fourth year, the Pride of Sport Awards, in partnership with TSB, celebrates the phenomenal people who have contributed to sport at all levels, across all walks of life.  The awards honour people who have gone the extra mile to help others achieve their goals, and those who have triumphed against adversity.
